The Cape Town edition... Welcome to my ramblings, if you care to read on, you will sooon find that this is mostly an attempt to record the things I'd want to remember one day but probably wouldn't. This of course is due to my absolutely rubbish memory.

Do I want friends like these?

Human nature is a rather strange ‘thing’ is it not? I’m not quite sure if I’ve workd this one out yet, but it seems we have a desire to constantly be ‘unique’ to be ‘one up’ on the next person. This drives us to do weird and not so wonderful things that just don’t seem rational.

I remember watching the movie ‘The Game’ with Michael Douglas in which his brother gets him a rather unique birthday gift, instead of a fancy pen, or trip to the ‘well-being’ clinic, he signs him up for one of the most horrific experiences of his life. A game in which it appears someone is stalking him, tormenting him, and finally chasing him over roof tops and making him crap his pants. Why? Because his brother thought since he has everything he could ever want what else could he get him? Hmmm, how about a pair of socks? Red, perhaps, since he doesn’t yet own that colour.

My reason for bringing this up is that I read an article in the weekend paper about a man who shared a similar experience, his friends had obviously seen ‘The Game’ one too many times.

The latest trend in Russia among the rich and the powerful it seems, is to buy a police squad for a night, get your friend arrested at his local trainstation for example, threatened with torture and then thrown in the back of a police van with barking german shepards wanting to taste your throat muscles. A few minutes (depending how sadisitic the cops are) later and the van opens to let you join your friends at the surprise party theyve set up for you. How nice, now if only you could get those brown stains off your pants before going inside.

TV sucks

I've never really been one for TV shows, always more into movies. But since coming back and picking up where I left off in the world of 'trading' as I like to call it (piracy is just a nasty word), I've noticed a sever trend away from movies and more towards TV shows.

I have now watched more TV on my PC over the last 2 months than I have my entire life! Smallville season 5, Scrubs season 5, 24 season 4, The 4400 seasons 1 and 2, Battlestar Galactica seasons 1 and 2, Prison Break, Rome, and the list goes on! What an incredible waste of time, someone please tell me how to stop.

On a happier note, anybody seen Narnia? I thought it was brilliant, childrens classic brought to life, and still appealing to our generation. Very different feel from Lord of the Harry Potter types, but done damn well. It actually feels like an old story being told for a modern audience without losing its heart.

Arctic Monkeys

Being back in Cape Town has been amazing, I dont think I've crammed as much of this city into such a short period of time ever. Constantly out looking for something new to do or place to revisit. All would be good if not for that section of music known as Brit punk/rock.

Every time I listen to Hard-Fi, or The Killers, Keane, Snow Patrol, Kaizer Chiefs or the newest member of this list, The Arctic Monkeys, I start missing London like you would miss your right hand. Of course there are times when I think back to 'the good ol days' getting drunk with Dayne in the Spanish bar, going absolutely mental the first time I was in HMV (with Marsh), blah blah blah, and I dont get too melan cholic, but missing the underground!? Who on earth misses that disease carrier? Back to the point, all this is fine until I put some Brit Rock on, then it just gets sad.

The solution? stop listening to damn british rock! I would, but its too good not to.
