George Shakespeare?
Anyone who knows me will know that like millions out there, I am a big Star Wars fan. More a fan of episodes iv-vi, but still a fan. Chris and I had a debate about those first (or last?) 3 films, he was wrong like usual, cause he seems to believe that no matter how bad they may be, because of the time in which they were made they have become instant classics. I disagree, its all about the story, the worlds, the characters, etc etc, theyre brilliant, fullstop, there is no debate there. Unfortunately however this means that it is almost impossible for the first 3 films (epsodes 1-3) to meet the fans expectations.
I watched Star Wars Episode 3, the final in the series on Monday and closed another chapter in my life. The Star Wars films are now complete, but like expected I still left the film feeling a bit unfulfilled, I'm not sure what George could have done different to fill that gap cause it was still a pretty good film, but with a few flaws, which none of the first films have.
My biggest problem was, and I'm hoping that others have picked up on this too, is that it seems like George Lucas based the relationship between Anakin and Senator Palpatine on Othello and Iago!
My reason for saying this? Anakin turned way too easily, just like Othello did, now if anyone remembers from school days, I hated Othello, it was just way too unrealistic that a man could believe someone like Iago that his wife was cheating on him, its just stupid!!! Sorry Bill but Othello was rubbish! So here you see my problem with SW3, if I hated Othello that much, how am I supposed to like SW3?
The only reason: it bridges the gap between the films, although unsuccessfully in my opinion.

Chris also said that American Beauty is one of the worst films he's ever seen, he thinks its quite possibly Kevin Spacey's worst acting role ever.
I still disagree with your SW argument, there are plenty other good sci-fi's from the 70's, 'Planet of the Apes, Logans Run, Rollerball, Close encounters, Blade Runner, Alien) etc.
But youre right Othello is a soft idiot, and thats how I saw Ani.

ha ha, I'm lgad youve seen the light, Pearl Harbour is the bomb!!!
I still think that it doesnt matter 'as much' about the time when it was released, they are brillant movies, period, but I cant argue that with the constant supply of popcorn movies these days, Im not sure if SW would have stood out significantly.
